NOTES. P. 90. 1. 4. ?in.n.A"'^*C^T : Thus is this word very clearly and legibly written in the MS. ; but what it means, or whence it is derived, I am unable to conjecture. I once thought of ({it\6(TO(f>os, or ^u. jj^jOjI Diabolus. Taking it with ftYl^yi - I have ren- dered the two words by the general term " evil-doers." Ibid. 1. 12. y^tioa : TxlH.ti.'ndi.C. : i-CD'AK : la.P't' = The Greek Text here is, 6 yap ©eof, ©eoj toi/ iXiovs, dir' dp'xrjs eKuartjv yevsdv im iierdvotav KoKei Sta tuv SiKaiiav Koi TUV TrpO<p>]TUV. p. 91. ult. ^rt.Tlrh(p : This is clearly the contingent ; but the sense requires the sub- junctive, as in tlie Greek, So^d^uai. The same thing may be observed of 3l.^d„A"dt- : p. 92. 1. 14, P. 92. 1. 13. H^ : J^'l-Vl A^ : Thinking that for n.^ : we ought very probably to read n.T : I have translated the two words together, n.T : Ji^VlA^ : "a vineyard." But I now think it would have been better to take the whole clause differently, and to render it, " We have filled the house with plants," i. e. "disciples," "converts :" TYIA : is often used in this sense. The Greek is, iva to 6e\tjij.a tov Qeov iroi^aavres, irXtjpcocroifj.ev tov Tp'iKKtvov (al. oiKov) Tuv dvuKEip-evuv. Ibid, penult. TXCD'f : MS. "fXaXh : of which I can make nothing. 'fllloO' : 'fXflJ'iO : " Ye have a calling, ye are called." P. 93. ult. ^«|>(D'9" : MS. jE«|>(D'0O' : But the following verb JP^-n'fl : is sin- gular ; and so the Greek Text. P. 94. 1.2, <D>»9n'H:^l'nn-:<D"JS9na>'f|-r: ""Ji^Q^^: fl-flrfiT = I have translated this as literally as I could from the Ethiopic. The Greek Text is as follows : dva Svo Se ysvonivoiv dvayvoio-fxaToiv, erepos t/j rovi rov Aa0iS ■^p-ixKKsTU) v/xvovs, Koi 6 \aos Ta dKpcxTTtxia vTro\j/-a?Oi£To). ^rt.'flflh : in line 3. ought to be in the subjunctive, instead of the contingent ; and it would have been better so to correct it, as I have done in some other places. Ibid. 1.5. i^ay-t)ftl : ^"ftC = m-tlC = The Greek is YlavXov rov crvvepyov >7/xwv. A few lines below, a-vvspyo) is properly rendered by hOC.Yl'tilJ' ■ fll'IlC • Whether OC^ '• o*" ^"y similar word, has been omitted here, or whether ^•feC "• m'flC '• ™ay be intended for a translation of crvvEpyo^, it is not easy to determine. Ibid. 1. 11. (D'7x7"'H : JSYlCD-V ■ «I>rt.'Tl = f^^K, ■ (DJ^R-IO?)'"*' : This is scarcely, if at all, intelligible. The Greek is, Koi e^rji irapaKaT^tToxrav oi -npecr^vTspoi rov \aov, o Kadetg avTiov, dAAa ixrj afj.a diravTEg, koi reXevraTos izdvTOiv 6 iiridKOTros, This sense I have expressed in tlie translation; but I have not attempted to correct the Ethiopic Text, as it appeared to require more alteration than I thought it right to venture upon. P. 94. 1. 12. a)'i\9"'H : " and after this," or " and then." I have omitted this word in the translation ; and ought perhaps to have struck it out in the Text, as it spoils the sense, and there is nothing corresponding to it in the Greek. The direction about the door-keepers is general, and not that they are to take their posts at any particular time.

About this edition
Recorded completeness: Complete supplied Platt 1834 historical English translation window, printed pp.1–131, with title, English preface, historical Latin canon table, English section contents and English notes. Main bilingual pages: retained source LINE indices separate readable lower English text from the upper Ethiopic OCR; exact boundary map saved with source. Final supplied page ends mid-sentence and the source marks its manuscript text incomplete; missing text is not invented. Greek/Arabic introductory specimens, garbled Ethiopic section column and separate Ethiopic vocabulary appendix are excluded from this English Reader edition, while full original scan XML/TXT remains immutable. Notes may quote imperfectly OCRed ancient-language tokens; no cleaned Ge’ez original-language edition is claimed.. Available reading sections are listed below.
