בַּשְּׁלִישִׁי הָיְתָה הָאָרֶץ מִישׁוֹר כַּבִּקְעָה, וְהָיוּ הַמַּיִם מְכַסִּים עַל פְּנֵי כָל הָאָרֶץ. וּכְשֶׁיָּצָא הַדִּבּוּר מִפִּי הַגְּבוּרָה (בראשית א, ט): ״יִקָּווּ הַמַּיִם״, עָלוּ מִקְצוֹת הָאָרֶץ וְהֶהָרִים וְהַגְּבָעוֹת וְנִתְפַּזְּרוּ עַל פְּנֵי כָל הָאָרֶץ וְנַעֲשִׂים עֲמָקִים עַל תּוֹכָהּ שֶׁל אֶרֶץ וְנִתְגַּלְגְּלוּ הַמַּיִם וְנִקְווּ לָעֲמָקִים, שֶׁנֶּאֱמַר (בראשית א, י): ״וּלְמִקְוֵה הַמַּיִם קָרָא יַמִּים״, מִיָּד נִתְגָּאוּ הַמַּיִם וְעָלוּ לְכַסּוֹת הָאָרֶץ כְּבַתְּחִלָּה, עַד שֶׁגָּעַר בָּהֶם הַקָּדוֹשׁ בָּרוּךְ הוּא וְכָבְשָׁן וְנָתַן תַּחַת כַּפּוֹת רַגְלָיו וּמְדָדָם ב…
